Aircraft Damaged and 8 Injured in Drone Attack at Saudi Airport
The Index Today
The initial report says that Saudi Airport Drone Attack left 8 wounded people and a damaged civilian aircraft on Tuesday.
Following an earlier reported attack there’s a second drone attempting to attack Abha International Airport but was intercepted and shot down, the coalition said in a statement carried by the kingdom’s official Al-Ekhbariya television channel.
Due to this incident, the flights had been temporarily stopped to ensure the safety of incoming and departing aircraft, as well as civilians at the airport.
The Huthi rebels have yet to give a statement on the incident.
Saudi Arabia intervened in the Yemen war on behalf of the internationally recognized government in 2015, shortly after the Huthis seized the capital Sanaa.
Yemen’s conflict claimed thousands of lives up to this date, resulting in what the United Nations calls the World’s Worst Humanitarian Crisis.
While the UN is pushing for an end to the war, the Huthis have demanded the re-opening of Sanaa airport, the incoming UN special envoy for Yemen will officially presume his duties on the 5th of September.
