Asteroid Larger than the Empire State Building Set to Pass Earth on a High Speed
The Index Today
A giant asteroid that is approximately 2.5 times the size of New York’s Empire State Building is set to fly past the earth next week.
Measuring about 1 kilometer (3,280 feet) long, it has been flagged as a “Potentially Hazardous Asteroid” due to its size and its frequent trips within close proximity to the earth.
However, the asteroid will be whizzing past the planet at a safe distance of 1.93 million kilometers, easing causes for worry among the public and the scientific community alike.
Called the asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1, the rocky object will be zipping by the earth on January 18th, 2022, at 21:51 UTC (4.51pm EST).
