Biden Administration Continues with New Covid Vaccine Mandate
The Index Today
The new vaccine mandate issued by the Biden Administration requires all private-sector employees to receive the covid-vaccine. Private businesses with over 100 employees will receive guidance and detailed requirement policies on how to implement the covid mandate.
The new covid mandate has received much criticism and opposition from republican governors who previously sued the administration and prevent the issuance of the mandate. However, on Monday, the Office of Management and Budget completed the review of the regulations which require private sector employees to be vaccinated.
The labor department stated that private sector businesses must issue and implement vaccine requirements for its employees. For those who can’t, must make masks and regular covid tests mandatory at the workplace.
In certain sectors such as the construction industry, the mandate could have a negative impact as workers who refuse to take the vaccine could shift jobs to smaller sized businesses. Greg Sizemore, vice president at the Associated Bui9lders and Contractors stated, “We are dealing with a very significant workforce shortage in the construction industry. The mandate is going to really influence and exacerbate that problem.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 70% of adults in the U.S are fully vaccinated whereas 80% have received at least one dose. The Biden Administration aims to release the fully detailed mandate for vaccine in the coming days.
