China Reports New COVID-19 Cases ahead of February Winter Olympics Games
The Index Today
An increasing number of provinces in China are reporting new cases of COVID-19 as the country gears up for the Winter Olympics scheduled to happen next month in February. Beijing on Monday reported additional infection cases for the seventh consecutive day in the face China’s aggressive zero-COVID policy.
According to the National Health Commission (NHC), six new cases in the city have been confirmed by the Beijing municipality on Sunday that are suspected to have been spreading domestically. As a result, the city has accelerated its COVID measures to check the spread and bring the infection under control as the country prepares to kick off the upcoming Olympics Games in February.
This comes as the provinces of Liaoning, Shanxi, Hebei, and Shandong reported eight cases similar to the ones observed in the Chinese capital.
