China-Russia Trade Dims but Surpasses Total Growth

The Index Today

China’s trade with Russia has climbed by more than 12% in total during the month of March even as commerce dampened in February, as Beijing decried the Western sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, Chinese customs reports showed that imports and exports between Russia and China rose by 12.76% in March to $11.67 billion, after lagging from February’s growth of 25.7% around the time when war broke out between Russia and Ukraine.

Prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, China and Russia established a "no-limits" strategic partnership after net trade between the two countries soared by 35.8% to a record high of $146.9 billion in 2021.

Although China has denounced the sanctions imposed on Russia by Western nations, there have been no indications as of now that the country would breach any of the penalties levied against the Kremlin as per economic analysts.
