The Index Today
A researcher based in Cyprus has found a new strain of the COVID-19 virus which is a combination of its Delta and Omicron variants.
Bloomberg News reported the discovery of the “Deltacron” by Professor Leondios Kostrikis of the University of Cyprus, which exhibits behaviors and characteristics of both the Omicron and the Delta variants of the coronavirus.
On Friday, Kostrikis said in an interview with Sigma TV, “We will see in the future if this strain is more pathological or more contagious or if it will prevail” when compared to the Omicron and the Delta variants.
The new discovery comes in light of the Omicron wreaking havoc across the world as cases continue to climb at a rapid rate.
