FIFA and EA Sports Part Ways, Ending Decades-Old Video Game Alliance

The Index Today

Following months of strained talks, global football association FIFA and prominent videogame developer Electronic Arts are officially going their separate ways, marking an end to one of the most prosperous sports partnerships ever.

According to the New York Times, FIFA and EA have reportedly proceeded without a contract to continue their collaboration. However, their existing deal will continue till the 2023 Women’s World Cup in lieu of dissolving this year after the World Cup in Qatar.

After the deal expires next year, the game will undergo a name change to ‘EA Sports FC’, reported the New York Times. Although users will be able to continue playing football champions and clubs of international fame, many FIFA-backed events as well as the World Cup will not be included in the game anymore.
