The Index Today

Apple Inc.’s provider Foxconn has instituted a temporary suspension of iPhone production at its Shenzhen site until March 20, since the government announced a lockdown in the region to contain surging cases of the Omicron.

The company revealed in a statement that it has halted operations at its sites in Shenzhen and Guanlan and has apportioned their production targets to other plants to avert potential disruption as a result. Although this may interrupt supplies, the demand for electronic gadgets tempers during the first quarter of the year following its holiday high, reported Bloomberg News.

On Saturday, China announced its worst flare-up since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic with over 3,300 Omicron infections. In order to counter the present surge, the government has implemented a series of lockdowns in the affected parts of the country including Shenzhen, which is home to 17.5 million people.
