Google Finalizes Licensing Rights Agreement with French Newspapers
The Index Today
Google and an association of 300 French newspapers have settled a dispute over content publishing rights.
In a joint statement, both the groups announced that discussions on payments to newspapers for being included in Google search results have been fruitful.
According to Reuters, the agreement, which is the first of its kind in Europe, can potentially lead to additional deals in the region that will enable other news publications to be appropriately compensated by Google for using their content.
The statement also mentions that the new pact “sets out the principles under which Google will negotiate individual license agreements and terms of remuneration with Alliance members.”
