Japan’s Subaru Corp Launches First Electric Vehicle with Toyota
The Index Today
Japan’s Subaru Corporation has collaborated with Toyota Motor Corp to reveal its first ever all-electric vehicle amid growing demand for EVs. The Sports Utility Vehicle is among the latest efforts by the company to move away regular combustion engines and join in the race for electric engines.
Larger companies such as Toyota are providing funding to smaller vehicle companies such as Subaru to develop electric vehicles as they can prove to be costly in terms of manufacturing technology. The company aims to manufacture a new line of 15 BEV models by 2025 with an initial funding of $13.5 billion.
During a press release for Subaru, the company said its all-wheel drive version can cover 460km on a single charge whereas the front-wheel Solterra can cover 530 km. Toyota currently owns a 5% stake in Mazda Motor Corp and is planning to build more electric vehicles in the next three years.
