NTSB to Investigate Amtrak Derailment That Killed 3 People

According to reports from the local Sheriff’s office, three people died after an Amtrak train derailed in the north-central Montana region on Saturday. The National Transportation Safety Board has announced it will be investigating the accident to determine the cause.
The Amtrak Empire Builder train was on-route to Seattle and was carrying 141 passengers along with 16 crew members. Around 4pm MDT, eight cars derailed near the town of Joplin according to Amtrak reports.
A number of people suffered from injuries during the derailment but have been safely removed from the wreckage. According to social media platforms, a number of images of the damaged train cars have been posted.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined and is undergoing investigation. Amtrak has announced all Empire Builder trains departing on Saturday from Chicago have been cancelled until further notice.
