Sara Duterte, Daughter of Philippines’ President to Run for Presidency 2022

The Philippine’s President Rodrigo Duterte announced his daughter will be running for presidency in the country’s upcoming 2022 elections. Sara Duterte has been working alongside her father for many years and is currently the mayor of Davao, the third largest city in the nation.

On Saturday, Sara Duterte filed to run for mayor again in 2022. According to ABS-CBN report of an interview with Duterte and a journalist, the president said he was planning to retire from politics and possibly file for vice presidency.

Duterte’s spokesperson Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco said, “The extent of my knowledge is also what was reported in local news. We have no comments on the same.” In the broadcast video, the president was asked if he would file for his daughter’s candidacy as president to which he responded saying, “I really do not know. I do not have any idea at all.”

The president, who is currently at 76 years of age said he plans to retire from politics which to many means he plans to make way for his daughter to take over. Analysts have shown skepticism reflecting the possibilities of last-minute changes. It has been reported that all candidates have until the 8th of October to register and up until the 15th of November to make any withdrawals or substitutions.
