The Index Today
According to the U.S Capitol Police Department, no evidence of wrongdoing related to the January 6th insurrection has been found whereas disciplinary action has been recommended in six cases after investigation.
The Bureau initiated 38 internal investigations to help identify and investigate police officers who were involved in the insurrection. However, due to lack of information, 20 out of 26 cases showed no proof of wrongdoing.
In the remaining six cases, disciplinary action was forwarded for violations such as failure to comply with directions, improper remarks, improper dissemination of information and conduct unbecoming.
After an explosive speech by former President Donald Trump Junior, riled up supporters stormed the Capitol Building in an attempt to undermine the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory. The event led to the death of four people whereas many more were injured.
Police officers who responded to the insurrection were attacked by the protestors out of which a few police officers who defended the insurrection later killed themselves. According to the department, 35 police officers were under investigation for their actions. Tim Ryan, U.S Democratic Representative stated that two police officers have been suspended for guiding rioters around the building and taking selfies with them.
