Spain Records Highest Number of House Sales in 13 Years
The Index Today
Spain has recorded the highest number of house sales in almost 13 years this July. According to published data, post-pandemic demand for homes saw a significant rise as more people had increased household savings.
National Statistics Institute revealed that 50,200 houses were sold in the month of July, which is 53% more than the sales made in the same month last year.
The new sales figures were reported to be 4% more than pre-pandemic levels and similar to what the country experienced during the real-estate boom in 2008. On the other hand, 55,000 homes were sold in April alone.
Maria Matos, spokesperson at Fotocasa said, “If you compare with the same month in 2019, the evolution is positive…which confirms that we’ve not only surpassed pre-pandemic numbers but also re-entered the big upwards trend in house sales initiated in 2018.”
Sales of newly developed houses went up by 40% in comparison to the number of houses inherited. Updated figures show that sales went up 20% year-on-year, which means one five houses were sold.
