Thousands of Flights Suspended as Winter Storm hits Canada and the U.S. East Coast
The Index Today
A massive winter storm has hit the eastern coast of the United States and the Canadian province of Ontario on Sunday, marked by sleet, high winds, and heavy snowfall.
Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Maine have issued weather alerts as the storm triggered emergencies in these states.
In Canada, the inclement weather is set to bring forth a snowfall of 20-40cm on Monday, possibly extending school reopening in the province which had already been postponed due to the persisting threat of the Omicron.
According to FlightAware, over 3,000 flights have been cancelled in the United States with an additional 8,000 delays. The Pearson International Airport in Toronto — the busiest in Canada — is expected to be swamped by snow as thick as 15-20cm.
