Turboprop Maker ATR Aircraft to Upgrade Engines
The Index Today
ATR Aircraft has announced plans to upgrade its engines belonging to the turboprop category due to increased competition for propeller planes. The Dubai Airshow will host the Airbus and Leonardo subsidiary as they plan to mark their 40th anniversary.
According to sources, ATR Aircraft will showcase a new variant of its famous Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127 engines. These engines have the capability to power turboprop planes of the 42-600 and 72-600 family.
At the moment, ATR has monopoly in the turboprop industry which values at $80 billion. Due to high oil prices, the planes are seen as more suitable and efficient for short route distances. However, the major challenges faced by the aircraft company include Brazil’s Embraer and upcoming projects from China and Germany. Embraer is expected to launch its new turboprop which promises to be bigger and better in 2022.
ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli said, “There will be competition in the future. We have ideas on how to maintain our leadership. We are not resting on our laurels.” He stated back in September that new product launches are coming soon with newer improvements.
