U.K. Scientists Discover New Life-Saving COVID-19 Medicine

The Index Today

Scientists in the United Kingdom have discovered a new life-saving drug that can help people fight against COVID-19, reported BBC News.

Trials on the anti-inflammatory baricitinib, which is usually used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, show that it can reduce the chances of fatalities in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 by almost a fifth. Experts have revealed that this drug can be used in combination with other coronavirus interventions like dexamethasone to improve the chances of recovery.

This discovery comes as scientists across the world continue to research newer and more effective treatment methods, in addition to vaccines, for COVID-19 which has claimed nearly six million lives worldwide so far.

Prior to this, researchers determined tocilizumab, dexamethasone, and Ronapreve as effective treatment measures against COVID-19 which have already saved thousands of people from succumbing to the coronavirus.
