UAE Ministry Issues Weather Warning as Heavy Rains Trigger Floods in Five Emirates

The UAE Ministry of Interior has released a weather warning following heavy rains over the New Year’s Eve long weekend that flooded five out of seven Emirates in the country. Since Thursday, the country has been experiencing its highest annual rainfall in the past 18 months.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) stated on Monday that parts of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah has been witnessing intense showers for the past few days. It has also issued a yellow alert cautioning residents of inclement weather till 9pm tonight.
The ministry in a tweet warned of “rains of varying intensity” in the country that can cause potential flooding as unstable weather conditions prevail. It also contended that “gale-force winds” and “very turbulent sea and high waves” are also likely to be present.
