Vice President Kamala Harris to Address Maternal Health at White House Gathering

The Index Today

The Index Today — Kamala Harris is set to further the cause of maternal health at a White House event on Tuesday. Attendees include notable personalities such as American Olympian, Allyson Felix, and Senator Cory Booker of the Democratic Party.

According to the White House, the U.S. accounts for the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries, which continues to climb 20 years on.

Vice President Harris reportedly plans to urge the public and private sectors to take up the cause of maternal health for the first White House Maternal Health Day of Action in an attempt to find effective solutions to combat the health issues affecting mothers and babies.

The Vice President will take up the proposal by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that propounds the need for “birthing-friendly” hospitals and medical services. This proposal will also offer guidance and direction to states to help cover the year-long costs of Medicaid postpartum services.
