Indian Athletes Make History at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020

Indian athletes have won 5 medals this Monday, taking their country’s name to fame. The last time India won at the Paralympics was in the 2016 Rio Games where athlete’s brought home two golds, one silver, and one bronze. This year’s list of medal winners has brought great to the nation and is paving way for success in the field.



Avani Lekhara, the Paralympic shooter, has won the gold medal and has become the first Indian female to win. She managed to score an impressive 149.6 in the event for women’s 10m air rifle, setting a new record for Paralympics as well equaled. She currently ranks as the fifth in women’s 10m rifle standing.



Sumit Antil, scored an impressive 68.55m in the javelin throw, earning him a medal as well as breaking his own previous record. The 22-year-old was performing at his very first Paralympic this year.


Other Javelin throwers Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Singh also managed to win a gold and silver medal.


Indian fans are showing their support and praise for the Indian athletes via social media. Prime Minister Modi also called the event a

truly special moment for Indian sports.
