The coach faced being sacked after completing only 17 matches since being hired by the club for the 2021-2022 campaign. Spurs have been suffering disappointing defeats at the hands of rivals including Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and West Ham United throughout the Premiere League.

Nuno was hired by the club in June to succeed Jose Mourinho who was let go prior to the league. His start was strong as he led the Spurs to victory with three initial wins during the opening of the ceremony. However, with Harry Kale out of form, Nuno was unable to continue and struggled to score more goals. Tottenham fans booed the coach as he decided to bring in Steven Bergwijn as a replacement for Lucas Moura.

Managing Director Fabio Paratici said in a statement,

I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and that we have had to take this decision. Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.
