Prince William and Kate Middleton Announce Winners for Earthshot Prize in Ceremony

On Sunday, Prince William joined other celebrities to announce the winner of the Earthshot Prize at the awards ceremony. The environmental program was set up to welcome new ideas to counter climate and environmental issues from around the globe.

The winners included the government of Costa Rica and the City of Milan. Both members have been applauded for their projects which centered on the restoration of natural ecosystems and management of food waste.


David Oyelowo, Emma Watson, and Kate the Duchess of Cambridge were among the list of famous people who attended the prestigious awards ceremony at Alexandra Palace in North London. According to the theme for the awards show, all guests were required to wear an environment-friendly outfit.

The Earthshot Prize was initially launched by Prince William and his renowned charity called The Royal Foundation. The program will determine five winners every year up until 2030 where each winner will receive a prize of 1 million British pounds.


Other winners in the ceremony included a coral farm in the Bahamas’s which developed a new technology to protect dying reefs. Other notable programs included an India-based technology that transforms agricultural waste into fuel to help reduce crop burning.

Prince William initiated the project to encourage people to look into climate issues and protect the environment. He said,

For too long, we haven’t done enough to protect the planet for your future. The Earthshot is for you. In the next 10 years, we are going to act. We are going to find solutions to repair our planet.”

Prince William recently criticized the space tourism being promoted by leading entrepreneurs. He further said that such powerful and influential people should find ways to repair the earth instead of finding another planet to live on.
