Tennis: Raducanu Loses to Wang, Torben Beltz New Coach for Pre-season

During the final tournament, Emma Raducanu lost in three sets to Chinese Wan Xinyu at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.

Emma Raducanu became a sports sensation overnight after winning the US Open back in September. The 18 year old entered the world’s top 20 on Monday for the very first time during the Romanian quarterfinals. However, she failed to compete against the highly-rated Wang and lost by 6-1 6-7 7-5. Raducanu who was suffering from an injury said,

I thought Xinyu played extremely well, especially in the first set. And I am proud of the way I fought to try to get back into the match. Everything was going her way and she was playing extremely well, so a lot of credit to her for keeping that level out there on the court. In the third set, I had a hip spasm in the first point of that game, and from there, I was just fighting to try to stay in it.

The tennis star told reporters that her new coach would be Torben Beltz, who formerly coached Angelique Kerber for the Australian Open and US open back in 2016. It is expected that coaching will begin sometime in November during preseason. Raducanu said,

Obviously he has worked with Kerber, who is such a great player and won three slams. I think that experience definitely helps with someone as inexperienced as me.
