RIP: UAE’s Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Passes Away

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has passed away on Friday, May 13, aged 73.

According to Gulf News, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced in a statement today, “The Ministry of Presidential Affairs mourns the death of the nation’s President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”

Sheikh Khalifa was the second President of the UAE and the 16th Ruler of Abu Dhabi, the country’s capital. Born in 1948, Sheikh Khalifa was a keen visionary who played a very important role in leading the country into the twenty-first century.

The Ministry also declared an official mourning period with flags flown at half-mast for 40 days starting today. Work in government institutions and the private sector will be paused for three days from today, reported Gulf News.
